Surprise!  Motorola and Verizon unveiled the latest addition to the droid arsenal today, the droid X.  The rumors and leaks pretty much pegged this phone well ahead of the launch but it’s still definitely worth another post.  So here’s what you guys can expect out of the “Next Generation of Does”. Starting July 15th,  customers can head to a Verizon store and grab a new Droid X for $199 ($100 mail-in rebate) providing...

Phonearena.com is reporting that they have gotten an anonymous tipster sent along the image to the left.  Look closely and you will see LG VS740 with Google as being listed in their system.  Of course there is very little other information on what handset it is exactly, but this image may be pointing to the fact that the LG Aloha is coming to Verizon Wireless. This model number popped up in the FCC testing records about a month ago. Now there...

If screen shots like the one above are any indication, Sprint is gearing up for for the release of their HTC EVO 4G handset.  Expected in the “summer” of 2010, the huge, sexy WiMAX-capable phone is being rumored with a June 6th/13th launch.  The picture at the top of this post shows the HTC9292 (EVO 4G) listed in Sprint’s inventory system .  This isn’t saying the phone is going to be arriving any sooner, but it’s...

As if we needed more credibility to Android or the Droid specifically.  Motorola’s signature handset has topped TIME’s annual list of gadgets for 2009, saying this marks “Android’s first credible challenge to the iPhone”.  Huzzah!  Validation feels good, but so does getting to say “I told you so!”  I know Android is capable of more than other phones, but getting …  Read More →

Verizon’s Droid is currently the only handset in the US to run the latest version of Android, but that will soon change. According to a Verizon Wireless spokesperson, their Droid Eris is slated to get a significant upgrade in the form of 2.0 or beyond. “The Droid Eris currently using Android 1.5, can and will be upgraded to newer a Android operating system software in first quarter 2010. The enhancement will allow customers to continue...

The folks over at Boy Genius Report were tipped to a couple of pictures of a new Motorola device . Looking like a softer version of Verizon’s Droid, it sports the same buttons across the bottom. According to BGR, the device has an 800MHz processor, though where that is confirmed is beyond us. They (and we) are waiting to hear more. The back shows what is either a 5-megapixel or 8-megapixel camera with presumably dual LED flash. With only...

Verizon is putting $100 million into marketing of the Droid, and so far the carrier has to be pleased with the results.  Less than a month after release, the only handset to sport Android 2.0 has sold somewhere between 700,000-800,000 units.  Verizon’s big marketing push for the Droid is strengthening as we close in on the holidays, and following our round of checks, we believe about 700,000 to 800,000 …  Read More →

Back in May at Google I/O, we announced ADC 2 — the second Android Developer Challenge — to encourage the development of cool apps that delight mobile users. We received many interesting and high-quality applications — everything from exciting arcade games to nifty productivity utilities. We also saw apps that took advantage of openness of Android to enhance system behavior at a deep level to provide users with a greater…  Read More →

Two more code-named Android handsets have emerged this week, both of which are rumored for Verizon.  Digitimes is reporting that an HTC Passion is coming in the 4th quarter. HTC is also likely to cooperate with Google again to roll out the next-generation Google phone, the Passion, in the fourth quarter, the paper added. We like the “cooperate with Google part” quite a bit.  Hopefully this means the full Android experience and...

According to some photos BGR has posted of some internal Verizon documents, the Motorola Sholes “Google phone” will hit Verizon retail shelves in late October.  That pretty much cements it, I suppose. It will be interesting to see what the user interface on a Verizon Android phone will look like, considering how Verizon likes to force  Read More →
