We’ve been playing a game again. This time it’s Abduction! 2, which maker Psym Mobile kindly sorted us out with a review copy of a few days ago. It’s just gone live on the Android Market this morning, and here’s what it’s like. You should know what Abduction’s about – the original has been downloaded through the Android Market more than two million times, and is a superb accelerometer-controlled platform game in which you bounce...

Abduction has been one of the stalwarts of the Android Game market for the past year and has been a virtual constant fixture in the top 5 android games.  Android has changed a lot since it was last released and finally the team behind the game have finally decided that today was a great day to unleash the next version of the game on us all. Some of the highlights for the new game ( from their blog ) include: 60 hand crafted adventure levels...

One of the most common complaints about the recent builds of CyanogenMod 6 has been that Nexus One owners’ GPS would suddenly take ages to get a fix or wouldn’t get a fix at all. The most frequent solution posted has been to change your Mobile Network APN type to “default, supl” to enable A-GPS through your cellular network. However, for some people this still didn’t solve the problem, including myself. Well, today on the CM forums,...

Google has just rolled out several enhancements to Maps for Mobile Android app. Specifically, the Maps application for Android has now been put to state similar to its desktop counterpart. So, aside from the Navigation and Walking features that were previously rolled out to the Maps for Mobile app, the features are now integrated to bring you Walking Navigation.  Read More →

Temperatures dropped about 30 degrees in Hades this morning when Apple announced they were relaxing all restrictions on the development tools used to create iOS apps. They will also be allowing 3rd party advertisers such as AdMob, but not analytics software such as Flurry. The changes bring iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch development a bit closer to the laissez-faire policies of Google’s Android Market. Though the latter still does not require any...

If you read our review of the HTC Desire , you’ll already know that the physical design of the phone is hardly the fist thing that needs to be changed. Regardless, we can’t complain about the changes HTC is rumored to be making here: Yep, what we’re looking at is a white version of the Desire, and even though I’m not exactly known to go crazy over white gadgets (especially when they’re phones), I’ve got to admit this one’s pretty...

Remember the nice Galaxy Tab site that Samsung launched on September 2nd during the official Galaxy Tab unveiling? At the time, the video section of the site only included the official commercial and a very brief teaser. Now, however, Samsung posted another addition – a video walkthrough of the Tabs main features – ones you would potentially use on a daily basis. The video was completely silent and embedded in their Flash site, so I “borrowed”...

T-Mobile has just officially outed the G2; a T-Mobile, Google and HTC collaboration that is the true successor to the first Android phone on the block, the G1. The phone is designed for T-Mobile’s new super-fast HSPA+ network, which now covers 55 major metropolitan areas and gives theoretical download speeds of 21Mbps (14Mbps or so is realistic in optimal conditions, apparently). The specs on this device were leaked and widely reported so...

Blog | Tech Blog | Secure Coding | Twitter | RSS Feed | Get Email Updates —- I pushed out a couple of updates to my android app Wi-Fi Keep alive a few weeks ago (mainly related to fixing the resolution and colors of the widget icons) taking the latest version to 1.4.4. This is just to let you know that it will take a while (a few weeks) more to get the pending updates and requests in to the program. I have been pretty ill for the last few...

The R2D2 is coming later this month, but in the meantime P3Droid from MyDroidWorld ripped apart the system dump and weeded out the special edition Star Wars themed live wallpapers. He was also kind enough to shoot a few handy videos demonstrating them, and I must say, they’re pretty cool and will definitely be appreciated by any Star Wars fan. Kudos, P3. Every now and then, somebody asks on StackOverflow or somewhere else about how to parcelize some nasty data structure, because they want to pass it from one activity to another. Generally, this is a really bad idea. What confuses me is that it should be fairly obviously a bad idea, since the design principles have been pounded into developers’ heads for the past decade or so. “Wait!”, you say. “Android hasn’t been around for ‘the past...

When it comes to photo editing on the fly, there are usually two kinds of apps: those intended for mindless fun, and those intended for actual work. Without a doubt, Camera ZOOM FX falls into the latter category, along with its mediocre UI, strange (though not necessarily poor) selection of effects, and (relatively) low price tag. So is it worth a look? A purchase? Read on for the  Read More →

Blog | Tech Blog | Secure Coding | Twitter | RSS Feed | Get Email Updates —- Just read this over at the Android Developers google forum: My app had a one-day sale on all platforms and app stores.  The price went from 2.99 to free for just today, but now that the sale is over, I need to revert the price back to 2.99.  The bad news is, the developer console will not let me change it!  I have…  Read More →
