Yay, research and analytics! Today’s pro-Android projections come from Gartner who just last year predicted Android would be the second-most adopted mobile operating system by 2012. I guess Android did a lot better than they originally expected because they’re now pushing that window up to “by year-end 2010″. According to them, they’ll be beaten only by Nokia whose Symbian OS has been on the market much longer than...

NOOK is getting another update for Android, this time to version 2.2 of the software that has already seen several new APKs dished out over the past couple of months. The latest version of the app for accessing the Barnes & Noble eBookstore and its over one million titles adds in QuickActions to provide pop-up menus for certain items such as eBook selections in the library with common tasks such as “Details,” “LendMe,”...

Cablevision subscribers, your days of cursing your inability to DVR from afar and plan what you want to watch after work from your Android handset are over. Maybe it was less cursing and more feeling a little pang of jealousy knowing other cable and satellite providers already had those features, but envy no more you will. Cablevision has released the Optimum app for Android and iOS platforms to allow for control of your DVR on-the-go and view...

A recent roadmap leak made mention of several new Android phones headed to Verizon in the coming months, and now two have made an appearance in the inventory system of Big Red. The Motorola XT610 and Motorola Citrus (WX455) will fall on the middle to low end of the spec scale but providing two different form factors. The Citrus is said to be geared towards the younger crowd as an entry-level device featuring Android 2.1. It should feature a...

In case you didn’t catch it late last night in T-Mobile’s press release for their G2, Andy Rubin had some words to say for the successor to the first phone to carry his beloved operating system, Android, and had a quick fact to throw out to us: we’re nowsitting at 80,000 apps. It’s an increase of only 10,000 from the last time we caught word of any official number. In May, it was announced that the market was housing...

The successor to the first ever Android phone includes a 3.7-inch screen, full QWERTY keyboard, Snapdragon processor, 7 home screens, 5MP camera (LED Flash and Autofocus) with 720p video recordingHD video camera and support for a 32GB MicroSD card. Well if it isn’t that Android-based tablet we’ve been hearing about coming from Motor– wait a second, what the hell is this?! It seems someone has completely kanged (cookies if you get the reference) Verizon’s Droid brand by offering a 10-inch Android tablet named the – well – Droid 10. At first glance, Droid-Life almost made me soil my pants as I thought Motorola had officially announced the tablet that’s...

Nope, it’s not Froyo. If that’s all you were looking for, you can stop reading here. For those that are just happy with continued improvements to their HTC Wildfire regardless of what version of Android you’re running, HTC’s got an over-the-air upgrade ready for  you to download. The upgrade consists of the following main changes: Update Information: 1. Enhances support for Facebook status display when dialing; 2. Increases...

Just a day shy of Google saying the next step in search is automatic, Google’s gone ahead and announced Instant search. The idea here is that – as you type – results will come up before you even have to press enter. I didn’t quite get what Eric Schmidt meant the other day when he quickly touched on this next step, but it’s quite apparent now. Did you know: Before Google Instant, the typical searcher took more than...

Last week we got word that HuddleHub was bringing their multiple league managing fantasy football app to Android , and just in time for Thursday’s kickoff of the 2010 season they have pulled through. The app supports both ESPN and Yahoo leagues simultaneously, so if you are the type to dip your finger into multiple pots at once this should cut back on app switching. The version now available for free in the Android Market isn’t chock...

We don’t hear too much about the Acer Liquid these days, but that doesn’t mean the phone is forgotten. Far from it, in fact. Acer is currently in the testing phases for the release of Android 2.2 (Froyo) for the Liquid, and Android @ MoDaCo forum member LIQUID_USER has gotten their hands on an early test build. Word is that the build is actually quite stable and that all core phone functions are in place. And thanks to the improvements...

Word of Wind Mobile picking up the Motorola Milestone XT720 has been blowing in the, er, wind for some time now , but a recent shot of an internal training screen reveals that the handset launch should be right around the corner. This will mark a significant upgrade from the carrier’s first Android handset the low-end Huawei U8100. This will also give Wind a fairly nice excluive for Canadian Android lovers to consider — the phone...

The Motorola Milestone 2 and Motorola Defy seem to speeding their way towards Vodafone Germany, as the company had both handsets on display at their booth at this year’s IFA . While no release date is known at this time, the presence of the devices suggests we could be seeing them on the carrier soon enough. While “more” images of the Milestone 2 are almost a moot point with the identical (in appearance) Droid 2 floating around...

It’s no Google TV, but who cares? People of Lava – the guys we reported on back in April – are finally set to show off their Android-powered TV called the Scandinavia and I can’t say it disappoints. Set to come out in 42-inch, 47-inch, and 52-inch models in Europe, the Scandinavia enables powerful internet features through the use of a heavily customized Android experience. It’s running Android 1.5, but the rep...
